Melissa officinalis - "Elixir of life"

Real Melissa or Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herbaceous plant from the mint family. Their flowers can be light yellow, white or pink in color. This rich plant can reach a height of up to 1.2m.

Thanks to its enchanting scent, it is a popular plant for bees, as the scent of its flowers, which contain a lot of nectar, is irresistible to them. The delicate aroma of lemon balm is based on the terpenes it contains: citronellal, citronellol, citrate and geraniol. The most useful part of the herb is the leaves, which provide a fresh, pleasant smell.

The famous doctor Paracelsus called the aromatic herb "elixir of life" because it gave great pleasure.

Since ancient times, this plant has been known as a medicine used by ancient Greek healers to cure nervous system disorders and various bacterial infections.

Lemon balm has been used since the Middle Ages to combat stress and anxiety and to help people to sleep better. It is known to improve appetite and relieve the pain and discomfort associated with indigestion (including gas and colic).

In naturopathy, real lemon balm is used for palpitations and high pulse, for restlessness and tension, for depression, restless sleep, high blood pressure, herpes and to help with childbirth.
